Thomas Zimmerman was born and raised in Hoxie, Kansas. Anyone raised in western Kansas is around farming, but photography and agriculture wasn’t always at the forefront of his mind. Thomas studied networking and computer technology in college, and worked for years in tech support and customer service industry. During this time, he took up photography as a hobby and honed his skills, eventually opening and operating a successful portrait photography business with his wife Jayme before closing the studio in 2014.
Portrait photography ultimately lacked the creative freedom Thomas desired. He began experimenting and creating the techniques he uses in his art photography as a way to challenge himself and make photography fun again. The two fit together well and Thomas began capturing the vivid scenes from agriculture on the plains in a unique way all his own. Eventually Thomas and his family moved to Gove county to help on the family farm. His goal is to try to convey the feeling he has while immersed in a landscape to his viewer. This lends his work to striking framing with vivid contrast and color.
As of 2018 Thomas has sold photography prints to 18 different countries on 5 continents. He was a finalist in the USA National Landscape Photographer of the Year competition in the color view category. He has been published numerous times in print and has enjoyed licensing his work for books, ads, and magazines. His greatest joy in art is seeing his photographs hang in the homes and business of people who love and appreciate them.
Thomas currently works as a farmhand for his in laws and resides in Gove County. His proudest accomplishment is his family consisting of his wife Jayme, and his four children Lyla, Remy, Eli, and Owen.
